If you need to install a set of 4 path lights (each 3W) and 2 flood lights (each 4.5W) in your garden, how should you choose the cable and transformer? (Cable and transformer not included)

1. First, add up the individual wattages of all the light fixtures. This comes out to 43W + 24.5W = 21W.

2. The typical distance between lights is 6-8 feet, but closer or farther apart is also acceptable. Based on the total wattage of 21W for 6 lights, you should choose a 75-100ft 16AWG power cable.

3. The transformer should be large enough to support the total fixture wattage, but it's best to stay within 80% of the rated capacity. In this case, a 45W transformer would be sufficient.

Note: Using a transformer that is too large for the load may overdrive the lamps and shorten their lifespan.
